19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since March of the previous year.
Victory also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.
Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.
He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a final set.
Moutet rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
